Calgary Olympic Park

The Calgary Olympic park or Canada Olympic park is visited each year by around 1.3 million tourists. It was the flagship venue of the XV Olympic Winter games during the late '80s. Why is this attraction both unique and popular, one may ask? It is popular because it serves as a competition arena, training grounds, and a fun place to many tourists.

Come winter time, three thousand skiers plus snowboarding people go to the park's premises. In the summer, the Calgary Olympic park serves as a mountain biking center, with 25 kilometers of interesting trails. There is even an obstacle course that would make fitness buffs happy.

One of the amusing exhibit items is the set of 20 Olympic torches- going all the way back to the 1936 Berlin games. Major highlights of the museum found in this park include the reproduction of a bobsleigh that was used by the 1988 team and varying medals for all twelve events done in Calgary during the 1988 Olympics games.

Then, there is the ninety-meter ski jump tower- the highest in Calgary. But with today's jumping techniques, this is no longer utilized. Skiers of today could now jump 120 meters or more, and there is not enough space in terms of safe landing. Still, riding up the glass-made elevator would make for a memorable experience for any tourist visiting the park.

The Canada Olympic park is an archaeological place, for some remains were discovered in the past. The indications were that the place was a buffalo jump -- which means this was a hunting ground for buffaloes.
